La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo del estudio evaluar el efecto de dos dilutores comerciales (AndroMed y Triladyl) en la viabilidad espermática de llama (Lama glama L.) colectado mediante aspiración vaginal en dos edades, el semen colectado fue diluido y refrigerado a 4 °C, se evaluó cada 6 h, durante 24 h. Para el análisis macro-microscópico se empleó DCA, la viabilidad repeticiones con un arreglo factorial de 3Ax2Bx3C(3). Los resultados representan que las características macro-microscópicas, el volumen de 3.1±1.3 mL en 3 años y 3.7±2.2 mL en 4 años, color de rojo claro 85% y rojo oscuro 5%, pH 8.3±0.36 y 8.3±0.4, filancia 0, una motilidad de 74.9±9.7% en 3 años y 73.9±12% en 4 años, vitalidad de 80.3±5.6% en 3 años y 81.5±4.7% en 4 años y una concentración 30x10(6)/mL en 3 años y 48 x10(6)/mL en 4 años. La motilidad, no hay diferencias significativa (p>0.05). En dilutores, las diferencias significativas (p<0.01) y en los tiempos de refrigeración (0, 6, 12, 18 y 24 h) señala diferencias significativas (p<0.01) y la interrelación edad por tiempo, edad por dilutor, dilutor por tiempo y Edad por Dilutor por Tiempo estadísticamente señala no hay diferencias significativas (p>0.05). La vitalidad no hay diferencias significativa (p>0.05). En dilutores muestra diferencias significativa (p<0.01) y en los tiempos de refrigeración (0, 6, 12, 18 y 24 h) muestra diferencias significativas (p<0.01), en la interrelación edad por dilutor, estadísticamente muestra diferencias significativas (p<0.05), en la interrelación edad por tiempo estadísticamente no hay diferencias significativas (p>0.05). La evaluación de semen pos-refrigerado logro mantener una viabilidad mayor a 50% hasta los 24 h, destacando en la refrigeración fue el dilutor Triladyl, lo cual es recomendable para su refrigeración y posterior inseminación artificial.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of two commercial dilutors (AndroMed and Triladyl) on the sperm viability of flame (Lama glama L.) collected by vaginal aspiration at two ages, the collected semen was diluted and refrigerated at 4 ° C, was evaluated every 6 h, for 24 h. The post-refrigerated semen evaluation managed to maintain viability greater than 50% until 24 hours, highlighting the Triladyl dilutor in refrigeration, which is recommended for cooling and subsequent artificial.

Resumen El objetivo fue evaluar la cinética de degradación en el primer compartimento (C1) de llamas de la materia seca (MS) del forraje F. dolichophylla cosechado a 3, 6, 9, 12 y 15 semanas de crecimiento durante dos épocas (lluvias y secas). La cinética de la degradación de la proteína cruda (PC), fibra detergente neutra (FDN) y la fibra detergente ácida (FDA) fue evaluada sólo en la época de lluvias. La degradación in situ fue descrita por la ecuación de Ørskov et al, (1980) D=a+b (1-exp-ct). Se usó un diseño de bloques completamente al azar con arreglo factorial 2x5, para la MS. La tasa (c) 3.24 % h-1, intercepto de la curva (a) 22.22 %, y el potencial de degradación de MS (a + b) 91.32 %, no fueron afectados (P>0.05) por la época, edad e interacción. Sin embargo, la degradación efectiva de MS (estimada con una tasa de flujo de k=2 % h-1) fue afectado (P<0.05) por la época y edad. La degradación efectiva de MS disminuyó 13.9 y 10.7 % de 3 a 15 semanas de crecimiento para las épocas de lluvias y secas, respectivamente. Las tasas de degradación de PC, 6.7 % h-1, FDN, 3.9 % h-1 y la FDA, 3.6 % h-1, no fueron afectados (P>0.05) por la edad de crecimiento. Sin embargo, la degradación potencial y la efectiva (k=2 % h-1) fue influida por la edad de crecimiento, variando de 97.7 a 90.1 %, 86.0 a 80.8 %, y de 72.4 a 71.9 % de 3 a 15 semanas de crecimiento. La degradación efectiva de la PC, FDN y FDA fue afectada (P<0.05) por la edad de crecimiento, disminuyendo de 88.6 a 63 %, 63.5 a 57.1 %, y de 51.7 a 40.3 % de 3 a 15 semanas de crecimiento. Se concluye que la degradación acelerada de la proteína a tempranas horas, y baja degradación de paredes celulares provoca un desbalance en la disponibilidad de proteína y ausencia de energía.

Abstract The objective was to evalúate the kinetics of degradation in the first compartment (C1) of llamas of the dry matter (DM) of forage F. dolichophylla harvested at 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 weeks of growth during two seasons (rainy and dry). The degradation kinetics of crude protein (PC), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) were evaluated only in the rainy season. In situ degradation was described by the equation of Ørskov et al., (1980) D = a + b (1-exp-ct). A completely randomized block design with a 2 x 5 factorial arrangement was used for the MS. The rate (c) 3.24% h-¹, intercept of the curve (a) 22.22%, and the degradation potential of MS (a + b) 91.32%, were not affected (P> 0.05) by the time, age and interaction. However, the effective DM degradation (estimated with a flow rate of k = 2% h-¹) was affected (P <0.05) by time and age. The effective degradation of DM decreased 13.9 and 10.7% from 3 to 15 weeks of growth for the rainy and dry seasons, respectively. The degradation rates of PC, 6.7% h-¹, NDF, 3.9% h-¹ and the FDA, 3.6% h-¹, were not affected (P> 0.05) by the age of growth. However, the potential and effective degradation (k = 2% h-1) was influenced by the age of growth, ranging from 97.7 to 90.1%, 86.0 to 80.8%, and from 72.4 to 71.9% from 3 to 15 weeks of increase. The effective degradation of PC, NDF and ADF was affected (P <0.05)bythe agethe a of growth, decreasing from 88.6 to 63%, 63.5 to 57.1%, and from 51.7 to 40.3% from 3 to 15 weeks of growth. It is concluded that the accelerated degradation of the protein at early hours, and low degradation of cell walls causes an imbalance invailability of protein and absence of energy.

Resumen El presente trabajo de investigación, se realizó en la Comunidad Chirioco cantón Patamanta del Municipio de Pucarani, con el objetivo de evaluar el efecto de suplementación con borra de cerveza y maíz amarillo sobre el engorde de toretes pastoreados en pradera nativa, con tres diferentes raciones durante la época de transición (Abril, Mayo y Junio). Se han utilizado 9 toretes mestizo Holstein de 2 años de edad aproximadamente. El diseño utilizado para el incremento de peso vivo diario y rendimiento de la canal fue diseño completo al azar. El promedio de incremento de peso vivo diario fue de 1.21 kg para la ración III), 0.99 kg para la ración II y 0.74 kg para la ración I. El requerimiento promedio de la cantidad de agua de un torete para producir 1 kg de carne fue de 95 L. El rendimiento de la canal de toretes alimentados con diferentes raciones fue de 49.6 %, 49.7 % y 50.1 % con las raciones I, II y III respectivamente. Los valores reportados señalan que no existen diferencias significativas, lo que puede atribuirse a que los tratamientos no fueron homogéneos, ya que los toretes presentaban una variación de peso en 60 Kg, al igual de la distancia de recorrido para el pastoreo.

Abstract The present research work was carried out in the Chirioco Canton Patamanta Community of the Municipality of Pucarani, with the objective of evaluating the effect of supplementation with beer and yellow corn on fattening of bulls grazed on native pasture, with three different rations during the time of transition (April, May and June). 9 Holstein mestizo bulls of approximately 2 years of age have been used. The design used for increasing daily live weight and carcass performance was randomized complete design. The average daily live weight increase was 1.21 kg for ration III), 0.99 kg for ration II and 0.74 kg for ration I. The average requirement of the amount of water from a bull to produce 1 kg of meat was of 95 L. The performance of the channel of bulls fed with different rations was 49.6%, 49.7% and 50.1% with rations I, II and III respectively. The reported valúes indícate that there are no significant differences, which can be attributed to the fact that the treatments were not homogeneous, since the bulls had a weight variation of 60 kg, as well as the distance traveled for grazing.

Resumen El presente trabajo de investigación, se realizó en la estancia ganadera "Uywa Illa" de la Comunidad Huancollo del Municipio Tiahuanacu, con el objetivo de evaluar la conservación en tres tipos de silos (trinchera, montón y bolsa) sobre la calidad de ensilaje de avena (Avena sativa L.) a los 90 días de conservación. Las variables respuesta fueron: características organolépticas, composición química, eficiencia de conservación de nutrientes. El análisis organoléptico, señala 96 % ensilaje de buena calidad para los silos de tipo trinchera, bolsa y el 85 % en silo tipo montón, en tanto 4 % fue considerado ensilaje de mala calidad en silos de tipo trinchera, bolsa y 15 % para el silo tipo montón. Para análisis de datos de composición química y eficiencia de conservación de nutrientes, se empleó el diseño completamente al azar. El análisis de varianza (ANVA) para el contenido de proteína cruda, calcio, fósforo, energía metabolizable y ácido láctico, resulto no significativo, la eficiencia de conservación de proteína cruda y energía metabolizable el ANVA resulto no significativo.

Abstract This research work was carried out in the "Uywa Illa" cattle ranch of the Huancollo Community of the Tiahuanacu Municipality, with the objective of evaluating the conservation in three types of silos (trench, heap and bag) on the quality of oat silage (Avena sativa L.) at 90 days of conservation. The response variables were: organoleptic characteristics, chemical composition, and nutrient conservation efficiency. The organoleptic analysis indicates 96% good quality silage for trench, bag and 85% silos in heap type silo, while 4% was considered poor quality silage in trench, bag and 15% silos for heap type silo. For analysis of chemical composition data and nutrient conservation efficiency, the completely randomized design was used. The analysis of variance (ANVA) for the content of crude protein, calcium, phosphorus, metabolizable energy and lactic acid, was not significant, the conservation efficiency of crude protein and metabolizable energy the ANVA was not significant.

Resumen La investigación se realizó en el municipio de Curahuara de Carangas correspondiente a la Primera Sección de la Provincia Sajama del Departamento de Oruro-Bolivia, con el objetivo de determinar la prevalencia de Sarcocystis spp., se seleccionaron 383 corazones, 229 de llamas y 154 de alpacas faenadas con fines comerciales, mediante la planilla de registro según especie, categoría y efecto patológico, durante los meses de marzo a septiembre 2016. Las muestras fueron procesadas en el laboratorio de Sanidad Animal de la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias y Naturales, Universidad Técnica de Oruro, mediante la técnica directa de compresión del tejido muscular cardiaco y la técnica histopatológica con tensión hematoxilina-eosina (HE). Los resultados señalan un total de 131 alpacas positivas (85.06%) y 23 (14.94%) negativas, 167 llamas positivas (72.93%) y 62 (27.07%) negativas. Al examen microscópico las alteraciones histopato lógicas de las muestras positivas a Sarcocystis lamacanis, siendo estas: infiltración eosinofílica, congestión vascular y degeneración de fibras miocárdicas. Los resultados indican que esta parasitosis es un problema en la crianza de camélidos y los datos serian un indicador de contaminación de los pastizales o zonas de pastoreo, lo que requiere implementar políticas de control de saneamiento de las zonas dedicadas a estos procesos.

Abstract The research was carried out in the municipality of Curahuara de Carangas corresponding to the First Section of the Sajama Province of the Department of Oruro-Bolivia, with the objective of determining the prevalence of Sarcocystis spp., 383 hearts, 229 llamas and 154 alpacas were selected slaughtered for commercial purposes, through the registration form according to species, category and pathological effect, during the months of March to September 2016. After in-situ evaluation, making histopathological cuts, the positive samples were sent to the Animal Health laboratory of the Faculty of Agradan and Natural Sciences, Technical University of Oruro. The results indícate a total of 131 positive alpacas (85.06%) and 23 negative (14.94%), 167 positive llamas (72.93%) and 62 negative (27.07%). On microscopic examination the histopathological alterations of the positive samples to Sarcocystis lamacanis, these being: eosinophilic infiltration, vascular congestión and degeneration of myocardial fibers. The results indícate that this parasitosis is a problem in the breeding of camelids and the data would be an indicator of contamination of grasslands or grazing áreas, which requires the implementation of sanitation control policies in the áreas dedicated to these processes.

En el trabajo se discute la calidad del agua potable y su relación con la Salud Pública. Se presenta el concepto de formación de biopelícula entendido desde la óptica de la contaminación biológica. En especial se atiende a Legionella sp., nichos ecológicos y enfermedad relacionada “legionelosis”. También se desarrolla la evolución de las biopelículas, su influencia en la calidad del agua, tratamiento y control. Por último, se expone la relación entre ciertos microorganismos implicados en las biopelículas acuáticas con el sustrato donde se desarrollan y el método de prevención.

This paper discusses the drinking water quality and its relation to Public Health. It introduces the concept of biofilm formation under stood from the perspective of biological contamination. In particular, attends to Legionella spp., ecological niches and related legionnaires’ disease. It also develops the evolution of biofilms, their influence on water quality, treatment and control. Finally, shows the relationship between certain microorganisms included in aquatic biofilms, the substrate where they develop and method of prevention.

The macrofauna is an important component of ecosystems because its participation in the biodegradation of soil nutrients has beneficial effects on the food chain. During six months, from February through July, a number of worms and their biomass (g m-2) were assessed in the soil of the Estación Experimental of Kallutaca, located on the plateau of La Paz. A study area of one hectare of fallow land was delimited. The study area had been without tillage activity for approximately ten years. This area was divided into five rings. Each ring had eight sampling points. Each sampling point included a square meter of soil and had a depth of 30-35 cm. The density and biomass of earthworms recorded in this study were 13.6 ± 29.74 m-2 and 4.7315 ± 2.3544 g m-2, respectively. The average length of the earthworms was 4.7960 ± 0.6219 cm. The environmental characteristics of the study area may influence the development of these earthworms.

La macrofauna es un componente importante dentro de los ecosistemas, pues su participación en la biodegradación de los nutrientes del suelo favoreciendo así la cadena trófica. A lo largo de seis meses, de febrero a julio se evalúo la cantidad de lombrices y su biomasa en g m-2 en el suelo de la Estación Experimental de Kallutaca ubicada en el altiplano de La Paz, se delimitó una hectárea de suelo en descanso de 10 años aproximadamente que no se ha realizado actividades de laboreo. El área se dividió en cinco anillos, cada anillo presenta ocho puntos de muestreo, cada punto de muestreo se delimitó un metro cuadrado de suelo x 30 - 35 cm de profundidad. La densidad y la biomasa de lombrices que se registró en el presente estudio fueron 13,6 ± 29,74 m-2 y 4,7315 ± 2,3544 g m-2, respectivamente. La longitud de la lombriz 4,7960 ± 0,6219 cm. Posiblemente las características ambientales influyen en el desarrollo de estas en el área estudiada.

El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar la biotransformación de los residuos orgánicos, de restos de cocina (Rc), pulpa de café (Pc) y cartón (C) mediante métodos de compostaje y vermicompostaje. La investigación se llevó acabo en la Estación Experimental, módulo de lombricultura de la Carrera de Ingeniería Agronómica de la Unidad Académica Campesina de Carmen Pampa, ubicada en la comunidad de Carmen Pampa del Municipio de Coroico Departamento de La Paz-Bolivia. El diseño utilizado fue completamente al azar con 3 tratamientos y 3 repeticiones, para comparar entre métodos de obtención en calidad utilizó la prueba de efectos fijos y para cantidad la prueba “t” de Student. La cantidad de sustrato inicial estudiado en compostaje fue de 1m³ y vermicompostaje de 0,02m³ llegando a culminar la investigación en 120 días. Los resultados en descomposición se obtienen en menor tiempo mediante el método vermicompostaje en Pc con tiempo de tres meses de un 98.33% seguido por el C y Rc; mientras en compostaje fue el tratamiento con Rc de 3 meses con 3 semanas con un 90.40% de descomposición, seguido por Pc y C. En cantidad, a partir de 1m³ de sustrato inicial se obtuvo mayor bioabono con Pc 271.62 kg, 465.83 kg, Rc 249.71 kg, 446.00 kg y C 212.48 kg, 404.00 kg, en compost y vermicompost respectivamente. La composición química de los bioabonos de Rc, Pc, C en N y P son tipificados como bajos, K alto, Ca en compost bajo y vermicompost medio, Mg medio, MO bajo y pH ligeramente alcalino a neutro en los dos métodos de obtención.

The objective of the present work was to evaluate the biotransformación of the organic residuals, of kitchen (Rc) remains, pulp of coffee (Pc) and cardboard (C) by means of compostaje methods and vermicompostaje. The investigation was taken I end up in the Experimental Station, module of lombricultura of the Career of Agronomic Engineering of Carmen Pampa Unit Academic Campesina, located in the community of Carmen Pampa of the Municipality of Coroico Department of La Paz, Bolivia. The used design was totally at random with 3 treatments and 3 repetitions, to compare among obtaining methods in quality it used the test of fixed effects and it stops quantity the test "t" of Student. The quantity of initial sustrato studied in compostaje was of 1m3 and 0,02m3 vermicompostaje ending up culminating the investigation in 120 days. The results in decomposition are obtained in smaller time by means of the method vermicompostaje in Pc in advance of three months of 98.33% continued by C and Rc; while in compostaje it was the treatment with Rc of 3 months with 3 weeks with 90.40% of decomposition, continued by Pc and C. In quantity, starting from 1m3 of initial sustrato bigger bioabono was obtained with Pc 271.62 kg, 465.83 kg, Rc 249.71 kg, 446.00 kg and C 212.48 kg, 404.00 kg, in compost and vermicompost respectively. The chemical composition of the bioabonos of Rc, Pc, C in N and P is tipificados like first floor, high K, Ca in low compost and half vermicompost, half Mg, MO under and lightly alkaline pH to neuter in the two obtaining methods.

La investigación se realizó en las comunidades de Paco (1603 msnm), Marca (1511 msnm) y Capellania (1720 msnm), del Municipio de Coroico, departamento de La Paz, Bolivia. En huertos frutícolas semicomerciales, se instalaron 15 trampas McPhail distribuidas de forma similar entre zonas, cinco por comunidad, “puntos de muestreo”. Los censos se realizaron con un intervalo de 15 días, se identificaron y cuantificaron las moscas adultas de la fruta. Para las capturas de los individuos, se instalaron las trampas McPhail, utilizando el atrayente (Buminal) y como conservante bórax. Las trampas se distribuyeron en parcelas representativas, teniendo como principales cultivos, naranja, mandarina, toronja, guayaba y palta. La identificación taxonómica de las especies capturadas se realizó en el laboratorio del Programa Nacional de Control de Moscas de la fruta (PROMOSCA), dependiente del Servicio Nacional de Sanidad Agropecuaria e Inocuidad Alimentaria (SENASAG). 1210 moscas adultas de la fruta fueron capturas, las que se agruparon por especies, sexo, fechas de captura y comunidad, correspondientes a los siete censos realizados. Se identificaron las especies de Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedeman), Anastrepha striata Schiner, Anastrepha serpentina (Wiedeman), Anastrepha sp, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), Blepharoneura sp Loew, Hexaresta sp Hering, Hexachaeta sp Loew, Tomoplagia sp Coquillett, Tetreuaresta sp Hendel, siendo la de mayor presencia Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedeman) con 818 y Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), con 354. La temperatura y presencia de especias frutícolas hospedantes de moscas de la fruta en estado de maduración explican las fluctuaciones observadas.

El presente trabajo se realizo en el Municipio de Ixiamas Provincia Abel Iturralde del departamento de La Paz-Bolivia, entre mayo y agosto de 2010. El objetivo fue determinar la presencia de Anaplama sp y Babesia sp, a través de frotis sanguíneo, se tomaron 160 muestras de sangre, 40 bovinos de las cuatro zonas han sido evaluados. Los resultados indican la presencia de Anaplasma sp 6,90%, 6,20% en hembras y 9,70% en machos, esto representa el 2,50% para la zona A, 5,00% zona B, 17,50% zona C y 2,50% zona D. De acuerdo a la categoría 12,50% en terneros, 0,00% en torillos, 4,80% en toros, 6,20% en vacas y 14,30% en vaquillas. La presencia de Babesia sp 3,13%, con relación al sexo 3,10% en hembras y 3,22% en machos, observándose un 2,50% en la zona A, 5,00% en la zona B, 5,00% en la zona C y 0,00% en la zona D, de acuerdo a la categoría 0,00% en terneros, torillos 4,80% toros, 2,73% vacas y 7,14% en vaquillas.

The present work one carries out in the Municipality of Ixiamas County Abel Iturralde of the department of Peace-Bolivia, between May and August of 2010. The objective was to determine the presence of Anaplama sp and Babesia sp, through sanguine smear, they took 160 samples of blood, 40 bovine of the four areas they have been evaluated. The results indicate the presence of Anaplasma sp 6,90%, 6,20% in females and 9,70% in males, this represents 2,50% for the area TO, 5,00% area B, 17,50% area C and 2,50% area D. According to the category 12,50% in calves, 0,00% in torillos, 4,80% in bulls, 6,20% in cows and 14,30% in heifers. The presence of Babesia sp 3,13%, with relationship to the sex 3,10% in females and 3,22% in males, being observed 2,50% in the area TO, 5,00% in the area B, 5,00% in the area C and 0,00% in the area D, according to the category 0,00% in calves, torillos 4,80% bulls, 2,73% vacates and 7,14% in heifers.

In Yungas of department of La Paz, Bolivia is located the community Carmen Pampas, source of natural resources and exquisite biodiversity, lately is being affected by the chaqueos and conventional agricultural activities, due there is not enough data in the region to develop sustainable agricultural alternatives that take care of environment. Taking this into account this work has as purpose to study the behavior of the californian red earthworm (Eisenia spp.) and the wild earthworm (Lumbricus spp.) in two substrates with the aim to improve the quality of vermicompost produced by these annelids. The work has been carried out in the module of Environmental Microbiology, in facilities of Unidad Académica Campesina Carmen Pampa (UACCP), Campus Leahy, located in Coroico Nor Yungas of Departamento of La Paz-Bolivia. Their behavior has been studied in two substrates bovine dung (manure) and bovine rumination (rumination) in 40 experimental units of 0.2 m width*0.25 m length*0.4 m depth, each unit showed a density of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 individuals with two repetitions of each one in 1 000 g of substrate. The cocoons number, number of individuals at 8 weeks, and percentage of degradation of the substrate was determined. The results indicate that substrates manure is better in the population dynamics of Eisenia spp., in comparison with Lumbricus spp. The physical and chemical characteristics of manure and rumination possibly influenced in this type of behavior for Eisenia spp.

En los Yungas del departamento de La Paz, Bolivia se ubica la comunidad Carmen Pampa, fuente de recursos naturales y biodiversidad exquisita, últimamente está siendo afectada por los chaqueos y actividades agrícolas convencionales, dado que no existen datos suficientes en la región para poder desarrollar alternativas agrícolas sostenibles que cuiden el medio ambiente, de ahí que este trabajo tiene como propósito estudiar el comportamiento de la lombriz roja californiana (Eisenia spp.) y la lombriz silvestre (Lumbricus spp.) en dos sustratos a fin mejorar la calidad del vermicompost producido por estos anélidos. El trabajo se ha realizado en el módulo de Microbiología Ambiental, en instalaciones de la Unidad Académica Campesina Carmen Pampa (UACCP), Campus Leahy, ubicado en Coroico Nor Yungas del Departamento de La Paz-Bolivia. Se ha estudiado su comportamiento en dos sustratos bosta bobina (estiércol) y rumia bovina (rumia) en 40 unidades experimentales de 0.2 m de ancho*0.25 m de largo*0.4 m de profundidad, cada unidad presentaba una densidad de 5, 10, 15, 20 y 25 individuos con dos repeticiones de cada una en 1 000 g de sustrato. Se determinó el número de cocones, número de individuos a las 8 semanas, porcentaje de degradación del sustrato. Los resultados indican que los sustratos estiércol son mejores en la dinámica poblacional de Eisenia spp., en comparación con Lumbricus spp. Posiblemente las características físicas y químicas del estiércol y la rumia influyeron en este tipo de comportamiento de Eisenia spp.

Triatoma guasayana (Wygodzinsky & Abalos) is a peridomestic triatomine with epidemiological importance in Bolivia, that may play an important role in the transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi (Chagas). In this study, two parameters of vectorial capacity were evaluated: the interval of feeding-defecation time and metacyclogenesis, in adult males and females and nymphal instars II to V of T. guasayana with comparisons with Triatoma infestans (Klug) and T. sordida (Stal). The results showed a close relationship between ingestion of blood and beginning of defecation. Values were negative in T. infestans, and T. sordida for instars II, III, IV, and V and also males and females but were positive in female T. sordida. Triatoma guasayana showed only negative values for instar II. Adults and nymphs began defecation as soon as they had finished feeding and required an average of 29.8 min. The analysis of metacyclogenesis showed that T. guasayana was superior to T. infestans and T. sordida. However, the vectorial effectiveness of T. guasayana was significantly affected regarding the percentage of metacyclic trypomastigotes during instars III to V and showed a progressive increase. Females had higher proportions despite their ingestion being half that of T. infestans. The different instars of T. guasayana had a higher parasitic load than those of T. sordida and, although ingestion was 1/3 of that of female T. infestans, there was a progressive increase in metacyclic trypomastigotes in the different nymphal stages of T. guasayana that decreased in adults.
